The polishing of boats

The polishing of boats is done in order to protect the surface of the boat, to improve its aesthetic appearance and to protect it from the damages of water, salt and sun. The process ensures the renewal of the gelatine coating (gelcoat) on the boat and polishes the surface.
Stages of Pasta Polish Application
1. Cleaning:
o The surface of the boat should be thoroughly cleaned. For this purpose, dirt, salt and other residues on the surface are removed by using water and a suitable cleaner.
o After the surface is completely dry, the paste process can be started.
2. Paste Application:
o Paste (compounding) is applied to remove scratches, oxidation and stains on the surface.
o The paste can be applied with a low speed polishing machine or by hand.
o If machine application is to be made, a suitable polishing pad should be selected. The paste should be applied over a small area and spread.
o The surface is treated until you are sure that the scratches are removed.
3. Polish Application:
o The residues left on the surface after the polishing process are cleaned.
o Wax application increases the brightness of the surface and creates a protective layer.
o The wax can be applied with a low-speed polishing machine or by hand.
o The wax is spread as a thin layer on the surface and allowed to dry. After drying, the surface is wiped with a soft cloth and polished.
Things to Consider
– It is important to carry out the process in a shaded area or in cool weather, avoiding the direct influence of the sun during polishing.
– The quality of the materials used determines the effect of the paste and polish. Quality products should be preferred.
– Excessive pressure should be avoided during paste and polish application to prevent damage to the surface.
Application Frequency
Depending on the frequency of use of your boat and the environmental conditions to which it is exposed, it is recommended to repeat this process once or twice a year. This will help the boat’s paint or gelcoat coating to last long and always look its best.
